Section reports are attached to the back of the Minutes. Tony Stockton has got the books back from Bill. Tony has also a Midas certificate.
Malcolm Harvey Ross has got his Midas certificate. For Christmas the Troop went bowling. Good turnout for the Carol Concert. Week before Christmas, some of the Troop went Pioneering. The application for the boat pound is due. Will, Malcolm and David have passed their Powerboat 2 course. Will is taking a Safety Boat course in March. Terrapin has given the lowest quote to move the new boat building; they will take some of the panels off and secure the roof. The portacabins are moving on the 25/1/2002 and 1/2/2002. The building will be moved when the Newts have come out of hibernation. There is to be a garage door at the end of the building to give access for the boats. Mesh put over the windows but the concrete has to be finished before the move.
We will have 4 more Jumble Sales this year. The Group buys the fireworks early and books the School of Navigation.
It was suggested that perhaps the Group should approach some Antique Shops with a view to holding an Antique Auction and split the profit 50/50.

OWLS COLONY SECTION REPORT
JANUARY 2002
The Colony has 23 enrolled beavers with 4 due to go to Cubs after half term and another 4 at Easter. We have looked at the waiting lists and are intending to take some new boys in to move the numbers up again around the 22/23 mark.
We had a very enjoyable run up to Christmas with our Red Indian experience. The boys really entered into the spirit of things and thoroughly enjoyed making the headdresses, totem pole, loincloths and drums. Our final evening before Christmas we had a party with a difference where everything came together and instead of having 23 little Beavers running around we had some Indian braves even down to war paint. The boys each had to go hunting. Swimming the river, through the forest, across the stream, killing their dinner on the way, of a fluffy rabbit and two pigs, through the tunnel of tree trunks and then fight the brown bear and all this to win their Indian brave feathers for their head dresses. We then sat around the totem pole and chanted some Indian rhymes and beat our drums before settling down to a supper of delicious morsels! Great fun was had by all and reports have been received that Osprey was seen attempting the hunting run!!!!!!! I think the brown bear came off worse!! As a bit of respite from the Indian goings on, we had an evening of Christmas preps where the boys made Tree cards and natural Christmas wind chimes out of twigs shaped as stars. We must thank the GSL for his help and interest on that evening, it was great to see you and we will let you know the next date for enrolment. (Get learning the Beaver promise!!)
This term, we are concentrating on the body, all parts of it in fact. Last week we had a games evening using different parts of the body to keep a balloon in the air, and also playing octopus on our bottoms and hands and knees, the problem is that the Beavers still seem to move too fast!!! This week we have been head and shoulders painting with which we intend to decorate the hall. Over the next few weeks we shall be covering activities to do with bones, heart, mind, and feet as well as the post Christmas visit to Soccer City and also ribbon dancing and Chinese hats for the Chinese New Year.
We continue to be well supported by our parent helpers and experience a very good attendance from the boys each week.
Regards to you all and a very Happy New Year from us all at Beaver Owls.

1st Warsash Cub
Scouts—Dover Pack
Report to the Group Executive
21st January 2002.
A belated Happy New Year to members of the executive from all at ‘Dover Pack’
We now number 19 cubs, all enrolled. We have six boys who will be of age to move up to Scouts by September this year, but I am sure that they will be replaced by eager Beavers! Numbers are low for Dover pack, and I cannot say in all truthfulness that it is not entirely deliberate. Being the only uniformed leader makes it difficult to increase numbers.
Our programme up to Easter appears on the Web Site and is the usual mix of activities. Last week we did ‘Shadow Portraits’ and tomorrow we ‘invade’ St Mary’s Church. Revd Andrew is kindly allowing us to visit and do some ‘Brass Rubbing’. We also intend to do quite a bit of craftwork in the lead up to Mother’s day and Easter.
Forthcoming events include participating in the District Master Mind Quiz, preparing for the six-a-side football tournament, a fun evening at Fareham Leisure Centre and a trip to the Planetarium and Madame Tussauds.
A report on our visits will be made for the next meeting of the executive.
Neil MacLennan
Akela, Dover Pack.
Viking Troop
There are 25 Scouts on the books.
Plans for the next few weeks: - a demonstration on the safe use of axes, saws, and lamps working towards the Scout Award. Community Badge - arranging visits from the police to HQ with a large van (Lock -up style), police motorcycle unit. Hopefully when evenings are lighter the police marine launch at Warsash, the Community policeman at Park Gate to liaise for us.
Maureen, David, Karen and Chris to arrange a date for Midas training so we can get further a field in the future.
Overnight visit to Fernycroft taking in long hikes over the two days working towards Pathfinder Award.
Going to contact the Fire Brigade regards a visit to the HQ for a fire drill refresher, Fire Safety Badgework.
Proposed Summer camp with 1st Locks Heath to liaise with Martin re venue. Review “Code of Conduct” especially for new Scouts. Discussion to be held regarding what our Scouts want and expect from Scouting and what needs redressing. Requirements regarding the HQ as a site for children’s parties, Barn dances etc. No alcohol is permitted in the HQ. Is a Byo System acceptable? It might be a source of income if advertised properly Payment would have to be by donation.

Group Leaders
Report
May I firstly wish everyone a
Happy New Year, I hope you all had a great Christmas & New Year
celebrations.
I will start my report with a
note about the trip I went on with Tony Stockton & a small number of the
Wight Cub Pack. Tony had arranged for his cub pack a trip to Shepperton Studios
to see the filming of Techno Games. For those that don’t know it, it is similar
to Robot Wars, however the robots do not fight each other!! There are a number
of events that robots can compete in, rope climb, swimming etc. & this year
football. It was an afternoon session of football that went to see on the
Sunday afternoon. For my I found it very interesting to see how the programme
is made & I believe the boys enjoyed it also. Some of us bigger boys got
into the spirit of things as much as our younger members of the party! Well
done Tony for arranging an interesting outing, I am now looking forward to the
up and coming trip to the Planetarium with Neil McLennen and the Dover Cub
pack.
I would like to thank all
those that came to the Group Carol service, this was the first time that I have
been able to attend our service & I was really impressed with the turn out
of all sections & friends of the Group.
The first term of the year
section programmes are now in full swing & look to be shaping up very
nicely indeed. Later in the year we will see big changes in all the sections
with the progressive award scheme. The schemes are due to be in place around
September so the sailing season & summer breaks for the younger sections
will be a natural transition between old & new.
Later this week the leaders
that are able will be attending a County Roadshow to be held at Camms Hill
School to see what support material is available for the change. As always the
leadership will keep you informed of the progress & how if may affect the
running of the Group.
See separate report for news of the Group Web Site.
Web Site
Report
For those that haven’t heard
yet we now have a fully operational web site on the Internet. The web site is
being expanded all the time & I am always looking for ideas & content
to add to the site. One of the areas that sees a lot of access is the Group
Diary from here you can search for activities or section etc. & a list of
activities matching your search criteria will appear on the screen. I have also
created section programme diary’s for the current term for those sections that
have let me have copies. The URL for our web site is as follows -
